On the Run

Jonah could feel the wood sliding under his fingernails as he clutched with all his might to the ships mast. The crew frantically ran about and yelled to each other. The wind yelled even louder. And not to be outdone, the ship responded with its own destitute moans.

Wave after wave poured over the bow, tossing the ship at will and leaving Jonah with the taste of salt in his mouth. It was only the flash of lighting every few seconds that illuminated the otherwise pitch-black chaos around him.

“How did I get here?,” he thought.

In chaotic or stormy seasons of life, it’s easy to wonder, “Where is God? Why isn’t He stopping this?”

But sometimes the better “why” question is, “Why are you running from God?”

It’s easy to shift and focus all the blame to God when we have a huge role to play in how our life unfolds—especially when we ignore God-given instructions.

When we choose to stray from God and do things our way, we run away from the presence of God. We run away from His protection. We run away from His favor.

Thus, we open ourselves up to attacks and difficulties in life—because it was our choice.

Now, every storm in life isn’t necessarily because we’re running from God. But, as with Jonah, it can be a reason as to “why” bad things happen.

Listen as Pastor Mark explains more about running from God.
