You Need the Power
Can we have a thriving relationship with God, but deny His power?
Paul warned Timothy:
“That in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves…having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” (2 Timothy 3:1-5).
But why would Paul tell us to “turn away” from such people? Maybe it’s because they’re promoting a God who isn’t actually real. Maybe because promoting a God who is powerless is a tactic of the enemy.
When we cut off the power of God, and just believe in acknowledging God exists, we can fall into our own religious works and practices to have an appearance of godliness. And we cut off all the benefits of having a relationship with a God who is real.
If our God doesn’t have power to move, act, answer prayers, or perform miracles, then He’s just like an idol. You might as well worship Buddha.
What separates the Christian life from any other religion in the world is that we have a God who is powerful and truly alive.
It’s one thing to know what has been written about God, but it’s another thing to experience Him on a personal level.
Remember that the Pharisees in Jesus’ time knew the scriptures front and back but didn’t know the Messiah was standing right in front of them.
They too looked godly on the outside but denied the power of God. But all those who came to the feet of Jesus were healed, delivered from demons, and set free to live a life full of peace and joy.
If Jesus, His disciples, and Paul needed the power of God to be “more than conquerors,” what are the odds we need the same power? Good thing it’s available for you today.
