What Should You Meditate On?
As Christians, we know that we should “set our minds on things above (Colossians 3:2).” Our thoughts should be centered on God and things of Heaven.
But isn’t that a little generic? What are these “things” we should be meditating on?
A good place to start is an area in your life that is lacking, or an area you feel you are weak, such as: character issues, relationship issues, feeling shame and guilt, lack of identity, sickness or disease, etc.
If you have had a need, God has a promise. Find a scripture, read it, think on it, and say it out loud.
For example, if someone felt overwhelming guilt and shame, they could read over and over again:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).”
Or “not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:12-15).”
The same goes for any other area. Find a word from God on the subject and think on that. Meditate on it over and over again until it sticks.
