Out of Balance?
A well balanced diet is a blend of vegetables, grains, proteins, fruits, and of course, drinking lots of water. Eat too much of any of the aforementioned items and your diet is, well, no longer balanced.
Like a well-balanced plate of food, we need a well-balanced intake of the word of God.
The Bible is full of truths, promises, directions, and various other words of God. But whenever we put too much attention and focus on one aspect, things can start to get wobbly.
Sure, we all love to eat the spiritual ice cream or bacon. But spiritual broccoli is just as necessary to stay fit.
You might know a lot about spiritual gifts, but not so much about acting in love. You could be knowledgeable about forgiveness of sins and know nothing about the baptism of the Holy Spirit. You could focus solely on prayer and forget about coming together with your fellow Christians.
So, how do we stay out of the trap of getting off into a ditch? We intentionally broaden our “food” selection and eat a well-balanced diet of the word.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. -2 Timothy 3:16
