How God Thinks About You

When God looks at you, what does He think?

Is He mindful of all your mistakes? Does He see you for your brokenness and untapped potential?

No. Once you’ve come into the family, God sees you through the lens of Jesus and pours out His compassion and grace.

A great illustration of this is found in Luke 15—the Parable of the Lost (Prodigal) Son.

To summarize a little, there was a son who took his inheritance and wasted it all on drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling—he lived a sinful life. When the son finally hit rock bottom, he decided to go back home and see if he could be a servant in his father’s house.

“But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry.” Luke 15:20-24

The son expected wrath. The father fell on his neck and kissed him. The son felt no longer worthy. The father put robes and rings on him and threw a party for his son.

Too many times we settle for just being a servant or hired hand in God’s family—like we’ve barely slid into salvation. We’re more preoccupied with what we’ve done wrong and trying to make amends for it.

But God is preoccupied with rejoicing over the fact that you’re back in the family. He only views you as His perfect son/ daughter. When God thinks about you, the words that come to mind are loved, adored, valuable, gifted, delighted in, and many more.
