A Heart for People
The breeze wandered through the reeds as Philip, Andrew, and John sat on the banks of the Jordan River.
“Behold the Lamb of God,” John shouted as a man passed by.
Philip and Andrew exchanged glances, then got up and followed the man. He invited them to His house, where they stayed for the rest of the day. They soon realized this was no ordinary man. This man, Jesus, was in fact the long-awaited Messiah.
Bursting with excitement, Andrew and Philip couldn’t keep the good news to themselves. The dust billowed behind them as they ran to tell others.
“[Andrew] first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, ‘We have found the Messiah.’”
“Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
In the verses found in John 1:35-46, Andrew and Philip display a true heart for people. Even before Jesus gave the command to “go into all the world,” they were already evangelizing to their friends and family—just as we should.
It’s one thing to love God, hear His word, be taught, and go to church. But if our heart is not for people, we might not be as close to God as we think.
Jesus endured the cross for the joy set before Him. That “joy” was providing a way for all of humanity to come back into His family. To put it simply, His mission was to find and save lost people.
And if you’ve been found, it’s your turn to find someone else. Perhaps someone like FRANK.
Now, FRANK isn’t a person, per se. It’s an acronym for: Friends, Relatives, Acquaintances, Neighbors, and Kids.
He/she could live next door to you, be a coffee barista, an aunt, a waiter at your favorite restaurant, etc.
So like Andrew and Philip, go tell someone else about your good news. You never know how a simple invite to church could change someone’s life for eternity.
P.S. You can even invite over social media. We’ve made some graphics you can download and share to invite others. Just click the button below.
