Life Church Welcomes Back Mickey McCaleb to Pastoral Staff
This past fall, Life Church welcomed Mickey McCaleb back on staff as an associate pastor to provide counseling and assist in church leadership. A graduate of Rhema Bible Training College, Pastor Mickey was previously the associate pastor at Life Church from 2008-11, and taught at Life Bible College from 2009-14. While you may be familiar seeing him play piano on stage, we sat down with Pastor Mickey for you to get to know him a little better.
Life Church: So Pastor Mickey, tell us a little about yourself.
Pastor Mickey: I am originally from Tupelo, Miss., but have lived in Idaho since 2008. I moved here with my wife, Kristie, and my two daughters, Aubrey and Kaylee. I graduated from Rhema Bible Training College in 1987, am a Marine Corps veteran, and received my doctoral degree in psychology in 2015.
LC: Where is your dream vacation spot?
PM: For seven years we always did Fourth of July in San Clemente, Calif., on the beach “between the clock and the pier.” I loved the time there and the days with family and friends. To this day it remains my favorite.
LC: If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be?
PM: Instant expert in anything? Flowing in the gifts of the Spirit—in humility and grace. They literally work wonders and change lives.
LC: We have to ask, what’s your favorite bible verse and why?
PM: I would have to say Isaiah 61:1-3. It’s a great picture of redemption and God’s will for our lives.
LC: What is the scariest thing you’ve ever done for fun?
PM: Scariest thing I’ve ever done for fun? Man, I’m not thinking of anything. I tend to be more cautious at times, and I don’t think I was ever the impulsive guy doing stuff that could have gotten me killed. On the other hand, I do recall me and a couple of other guys driving through one of our schoolteacher’s yard one morning at about 3 a.m. during high school.
LC: What book, beside the Bible, are you reading right now?
PM: Right now, I’m reading “People Fuel” by John Townsend.
LC: What are you excited about with coming back on staff at Life Church?
PM: I want to “Make Life Church Great Again.” Just kidding. In short, I want to tangibly reengage the purpose for which my family and I moved to Idaho in 2008, which was to help Pastor Mark and Amy through support ministry. The day we arrived — March 5, 2008 – the Lord ministered these words to me: “Love them. Lead them. Laugh with them. Live with them.” In essence, those words seem to embody my heart for people.
